Privacy Policy for HypeSquad

Heads up: This is a legal document. We've tried to make it as clear and straightforward as possible. Your trust is the most important thing to us.

1. Introduction

Welcome to HypeSquad! We're building a new way for students at Penn State to connect and find their squad. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you sign up for our waitlist at hypesquad.app.

This project was started by a PSU alum and is an independent project not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by The Pennsylvania State University.

2. Information We Collect

When you join our waitlist, we collect the following information:

  • Email Address: We collect your Penn State email address (`@psu.edu`) to verify that you are a student and to contact you.
  • Suggestions & Feedback (Optional): If you choose to provide it, we collect any suggestions, ideas, or feedback you submit through our waitlist form.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for a few specific purposes:

  • To Manage the Waitlist: To notify you about early access to the HypeSquad app, send you updates on our progress, and let you know when the app is live.
  • To Improve Our Product: We use the feedback and suggestions you provide to help us build a better, more useful app that solves real problems for students.
  • To Communicate With You: To send you the verification OTP and respond to any direct inquiries you send to our support email.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We only share it with a few essential third-party services that help us operate.

  • Firebase (Google): We use Google's Firebase Firestore to securely store our waitlist data, including your email address.
  • Resend: We use Resend as our email service provider to send you the verification OTP and other waitlist-related communications.
  • Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website. This helps us improve our service and marketing efforts. This data is aggregated and anonymized.

These services are bound by their own privacy policies and are not permitted to use your information for any other purpose.

5. Data Security

We take the security of your information seriously. We use industry-standard measures, including those provided by our partners at Firebase, to protect your data from unauthorized access. However, no online service is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights

You have rights over your information.

  • You can request to see the information we have collected about you at any time.
  • You can request that we delete your information from our waitlist.
